Actress Kangana Ranaut is poised to contest the Lok Sabha election from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency on a BJP ticket.
The Saffron Party, on Sunday, unveiled the outspoken actress as one of its candidates for the upcoming polls.
Born in Bhambla near Manali, which falls within the Mandi district, Kangana expressed her gratitude and excitement about joining the BJP through a post on the microblogging website.
“The culture within the RSS and the BJP is highly conducive. Everyone here supports one another. I intend to follow in their footsteps and extend the same support for the betterment of my constituency and its people. Mandi is significant, and we are set to launch a massive campaign,” she wrote.
In her statement, the Queen actress declared her unwavering allegiance to the party and affirmed her readiness to serve as a dedicated party worker and a dependable public representative.
Speculation about Kangana’s political aspirations gained momentum after her recent attendance at an RSS event in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, where she indicated ideological resonance with the RSS philosophy.
The decision to enter politics aligns with Kangana’s previous hints at such a move, particularly when she mentioned in 2022 her keen interest in politics but without concrete plans to pursue it professionally.
Kangana’s family legacy also contributes to her decision, with her great-grandfather, Sarju Singh Ranaut, having been a member of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly from the Indian National Congress.
Beyond politics, Kangana’s fluctuating career in Bollywood continues with all her recent movies tanking one after another in the box office.
As the political atmosphere heats up in the country, the Manikarnika actress is set to play the role of Indira Gandhi in the Emergency, which is set for its theatrical release on June 14.
In other fronts, shooting for the third installment of Tanu Weds Manu has begun and these two projects carry a lot of hope for the actress if she is to reclaim her prominence in the industry.
Her dual identity adds an additional layer of interest to the upcoming election in her constituency.
