GUWAHATI: Assamese short film Mur Ghurar Duronto Goti (The Horse from Heaven) continues its triumphant journey.
After being selected as the country’s official entry at the 95th Academy Awards, the 15-minutes short film, recently clinched the prestigious Best Film award at the esteemed Golden Raven International Film Festival in Russia.
The prize distribution ceremony unfolded in Anadyr city in the Sukhka Autonomous Region of Russia.
Representatives from the Indian Embassy in Russia graciously accepted the award on behalf of the filmmakers, emphasising the global recognition garnered by Indian cinema on the international stage.
Directed by Maharishi Tuhin Kashyap, the short film soared to the Oscars 2023 as a contender in the Best Live Action Short Film category, emerging victorious at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival 2022
The film intricately blends elements of the absurd and the real, culminating in a captivating and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
It has enchanted audiences at numerous international film festivals, including The Kolkata International Film Festival, Jaipur International Film Festival, and Himalayan Film Festival, garnering widespread acclaim and multiple accolades along the way.
Its impact transcends geographical boundaries, evident in a special screening hosted at the Cinetecha National Museum in Mexico.
The Assamese masterpiece features esteemed actor Atul Pachoni portraying the role of Kuxhol, the protagonist.
The film artfully incorporates a 600-year-old storytelling tradition known as Ojapali, now a fading art form.
Ojapali performers employ songs and dance to narrate tales from Indian epics such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and the puranas, seamlessly blending the timeless with the contemporary.
Beyond its captivating narrative, Mur Ghurar Duronto Goti offers profound commentary on the potency of storytelling and the act of fictionalising reality for solace.
