Will Smith is relieved to put January 2025 behind him, and he’s embracing a new beginning with February 1 as his “real” New Year’s Day.

The Hollywood star recently took to Instagram to share a message with fans, saying, “I’ve decided that January Sucked! And February 1 is my actual New Year’s Day. So… HAPPY NEW YEAR’S, EVERYBODY (sic)”.

2025 also marks three years since the infamous “Oscar Slap” incident, when Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, following a joke Rock made about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia condition.

Looking ahead, Smith is gearing up for an exciting new project. It was reported last year that Smith is reuniting with director Michael Bay, with whom he collaborated on the successful Bad Boys franchise.

The duo is reportedly in talks for the action film Fast and Loose, set to stream on Netflix.

The movie will follow a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memory and uncovers that he’s been living two very different lives: one as a notorious crime lord and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

The film’s script was written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson.

Smith, Kelly McCormick, and David Leitch will produce under the 87North banner, while Westbrook Studios and STXfilms are involved in production.

Bay and Smith’s collaboration dates back to 1995’s Bad Boys, which marked Bay’s directorial debut and led to three successful sequels: Bad Boys II, Bad Boys for Life, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

Smith’s most recent work includes an Oscar-winning performance in King Richard (2021), a starring role in Emancipation (2022), and his upcoming role in Sony’s sci-fi thriller Resistor, based on Daniel Suarez’s novel Influx.

Meanwhile, Michael Bay, known for his work on the Transformers franchise and Pearl Harbor, is also working on several exciting projects, including the development of an animated adaptation of the viral meme Skibidi Toilet for TV and film and his first docuseries, Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior.
