Guwahati: The highly anticipated inaugural edition of the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2025 is set to begin on February 7 at the Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio in Guwahati, Assam.

The three-day festival, catering to film enthusiasts, creators, and industry professionals, will officially launch at 5:30 pm on Friday.

The opening ceremony will feature the screening of the Iranian film In the Arms of the Tree, directed by Babak Khajehpasha, a highly regarded filmmaker from Iran.

Distinguished guests at the event will include internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, renowned Indian actress Sheeba Chaddha, and Assam’s Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota.

GAFF 2025, organised by Trending Now Media, promises to offer a dynamic program, featuring 25 feature films selected from over 200 submissions across Asia.

Films from countries such as Iran, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Turkey will be showcased, emphasising cultural exchange and artistic collaboration.

In addition, the festival will feature a competitive segment dedicated to films from North-East India, recognising excellence in categories such as Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Performance.

Six films from the Northeast will compete for top honours, celebrating the region’s cinematic talent and creativity.

Monita Borgohain, Honorary Festival Director of GAFF 2025, expressed her excitement about the festival, stating, “We are thrilled to bring cinema lovers on an extraordinary journey, where diverse stories unfold on the big screen. Your participation will make this event even more special.”

The overwhelming demand for the festival led to the closure of online delegate registration on January 31.

The event is expected to attract a wide range of audiences, from filmmakers and critics to students and cinephiles eager to explore the evolving landscape of Asian cinema.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will host engaging panel discussions and workshops, offering networking opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and industry experts.
