The makers of Kangana Ranaut-starrer film Emergency have released its first song titled “Singhasan Khali Karo,” ahead of its theatrical release.
Based on the period when an emergency was imposed in the country in 1975, Kangana essays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her upcoming political film Emergency.
Produced and directed by Kangana, the movie is set to hit theatres by September 6, 2024.
Reviving the iconic anthem ‘Singhasan Khali Karo ki Janta Ati hai’, originally penned by legendary poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, this powerful track encapsulates the patriotic spirit that pervaded India throughout the 60s and 70s.
The film has an impressive ensemble cast with Shreyas Talpade playing Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Milind Soman as Sam Manekshaw, Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram, and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi.
The song was composed by maestro GV Prakash Kumar and the lyrics have been penned by Manoj Muntashir. Singers Udit Narayan, Nakash Aziz, and Nakul Abhyankar have lent their melodious voices to the song.
Singhasan Khali Karo almost sounds like a battle cry for freedom fighters who get arrested and raise their voices publicly to establish a just, democratic government in India.
Talking about the song, Kangana Ranaut said, “In the 1970s, the people of India rallied together and found their voice in ‘Singhasan Khali Karo’, a slogan that challenged the tyranny of Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s premiership. These were the words of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, celebrated as the poet of rebellion and they became Jayaprakash Narayan’s call for Total Revolution. This clarion call shook the very foundations of power, its aftershocks birthing new parties and ideologies. Every patriot became a foot soldier in the army of democracy and the sentiments of this movement live on in the DNA of Indian politics. It’s incredible to collaborate with maestro G V Prakash, who captured the emotional resonance of this revolution in the song.”

Music composer GV Prakash Kumar said, “Composing the song was an extraordinary journey. It is an outcome of diving deep into the raw revolutionary spirit of the 1970s, and bringing it to life through music is an honour.”
The song is a reminder of how even the strongest and biggest empires and governments fall if people rise together against it.
