Guwahati: Himjyoti Talukdar’s Assamese feature film ‘Taarikh’ has been selected for the Indian Panorama section of the 22nd Chennai International Film Festival, which will take place from December 12 to 19, 2024.
This is a historic moment for the Assamese film industry, as Taarikh is the sole entry from Assam and the entire Northeast region to be featured in this prestigious event.
The festival will open with Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door” and close with Sean Baker’s “Anora,” the Palme d’Or winner at Cannes.
A total of 123 films from 50 countries will participate in the festival, including award-winning and nominated films from various international film festivals.
Produced by Arundhati Sarmah Baruah and Dr. Muktismaan Hazarika, the film features veteran actor Arun Nath, Boloram Das, Swagata Bharali, and Kula Kuldip.
The film revolves around retired professor Durlov Dutta, whose life takes an unexpected turn when a new opportunity forces him to confront his past. This poignant cinematic journey explores themes of redemption and optimism.
25 films have been selected by the preview committee for the Tamil Films Competition category, while 12 films have been shortlisted for the World Cinema category.
Besides, 16 films have been selected by the preview committee under the Indian Panorama category. Out of these, six are from the Directorate of Film Festivals and National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), India.
“This recognition is a testament to our hard work and reflects the growing prominence of Assamese stories on the global stage,” said producer Dr. Muktismaan Hazarika.
