GUWAHATI: Assamese fashion designer Sanjukta Dutta is poised to make a mark at the prestigious 77th Cannes Film Festival with her exquisite Mekhela Chador creations.
Dutta will grace the red carpet of the coveted film festival on May 25, adorned in her own distinctive garments, alongside supermodels Mirka Oktavia Hendro and Valeriya Hjertenaes, who will showcase her creations.
Expressing her excitement for Cannes 2024, Dutta shared that she is thrilled about this year’s theme for Cannes.
“The excitement is palpable, and it’s an honour to showcase my collection at such a prestigious event,” she told a national news agency.
Highlighting the alignment between the theme and her design philosophy, Dutta added that this year’s theme resonates deeply with her design philosophy.
“It is allowing me to explore the rich heritage of Indian craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion,” added the designer, who hails from Nagaon.
Delving into the inspiration behind her creations for Cannes, Dutta highlighted her endeavour to bring Assam’s culture and roots to an international platform.
She reiterated that the theme has provided a perfect canvas to blend traditional elements with modern aesthetics, creating pieces that are not only visually stunning but also tell a profound story.
