Anupam Kher’s upcoming film “Calorie” will have its international premiere at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 23, the organisers announced.
The film will be featured in the ‘Cinema of the World’ section at the festival, which runs from November 20 to 28.
Written and directed by Indo-Canadian filmmaker Eisha Marjara, Calorie is slated for a theatrical release across Canada on November 28.
The film has won Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Actor at its Canadian premiere at the IFFSA Toronto Festival.
“Calorie is a deeply human story that transcends borders. It’s about family, memory, and healing — universal themes that resonate with everyone,” Anupam Kher said in a statement. “I was drawn to the honesty and emotional depth of Eisha’s storytelling,” he added.
Director Eisha Marjara described the film as a deeply personal project. “Calorie is a story of mothers and daughters, and the complex bonds that shape who we are. It was born from my personal grief — my family’s loss in the 1985 Air India tragedy. Through this story, I wanted to explore how we heal and find strength across generations and borders,” she said.
The film follows Monika, a stressed single mother who sends her two teenage daughters to India to visit relatives, hoping the trip will reconnect them with their Punjabi heritage. What begins as a reluctant visit soon transforms into a profound journey of identity, healing, and rediscovery across continents and generations.
