GUWAHATI: The Assamese film industry has earned national recognition with multiple wins at the 70th National Film Awards.
Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah directorial Sikaisal has clinched the Best Tiwa Film award. Emuthi Puthi by Kulanandini Mahanta has been awarded the Best Assamese Film.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the winners of the 70th National Film Awards on Friday in New Delhi, honouring the finest in cinema from the year 2022.
Nabapan Deka’s Assamese short film Xunyota (Void) bagged the Best Short Film award.
While Aimee Baruah’s Birubala: Witch to Padmashri and Partha Sarathi Mahanta’s Hargila– The Greater Adjutant Stork received special mentions from the jury.
Oscar-winner AR Rahman’s name featured in the prestigious list. He won the National Film Award for Best Music Director (Background Score) for his work in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan – Part 1, which became a blockbuster in 2022.
Composer Pritam Chakraborty has bagged his first National Film Award — Best Music Director (songs) for Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.
Joining AR Rahman and Pritam Chakraborty on the list is Arijit Singh. He has secured the Best Male Playback Singer award for Kesariya from Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.

The Malayalam film, Aattam, clinched the Best Film Award. Actors Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam (Tamil), Manasi Parekh for Kutch Express (Gujarati), and Rishab Shetty for Kantara (Kannada) were awarded Best Actor in a Leading Role.
The awards ceremony will be held at a later date with the winners receiving the awards from the President of India.
