The region’s cinematic landscape, adorned with numerous awards, introduces audiences to compelling narratives and vibrancy of filmmaking in the Northeast.

Anur (Assamese)

This Monjul Baruah’s masterpiece, claimed the Best Feature Film award in Assamese at the 69th National Film Awards. Adapted from Anuradha Sharma Pujaree’s short story, it delicately portrays the life of an elderly teacher navigating loneliness after her husband’s demise. The comfort of her home, entwined with memories, faces a test with the arrival of a special someone.

Boomba Ride (Mishing):

Biswajeet Bora’s Boomba Ride snagged the Best Mishing Film award at the 69th National Film Awards, unfolding the humorous yet poignant tale of Boomba, the sole student at a government school. Teachers resort to unconventional methods, including country chicken and cash, to keep him in school and safeguard their salaries.

Eikhoigee Yum (Manipur)

This Romi Meitei’s exploration secured Best Manipuri Film at the coveted 2023 National Film Awards, delving into the impact of globalisation on a remote village nestled by Loktak, Northeast’s largest freshwater lake. The film immerses viewers in the struggles of a local fishing community facing eviction and the ensuing upheaval.

Beyond Blast (Manipur)

Manipur filmmaker, Saikhom Ratan’s Beyond Blast earned Best Biographical Film at the 69th National Awards, narrating the life of Konthoujam Maikel Meitei, an artist who lost both legs in an Imphal bomb blast. The 52-minute documentary offers a poignant glimpse into resilience and artistry amid adversity.

The Redemption (Arunachal Pradesh)

A cinematic triumph, The Redemption, a Galo language film from Arunachal Pradesh, claimed 12 prestigious awards, marking a historic moment. Honoured internationally, including the “Honorable Jury Mention Award” at ICFF Mumbai and Best Director at Rome International Film Awards, the film has become a powerhouse on the global film stage.
