Guwahati: Radisson Hotel Group is gearing up to strengthen its footprint in the Northeast with plans to open new properties in prime destinations like Kaziranga and Shillong.
Senior officials confirmed that discussions with prospective partners are already underway to bring these projects to life.
According to Ankur Mehrotra, General Manager of Radisson Blu Guwahati, both the Kaziranga and Shillong projects will be greenfield developments.
“Land for the upcoming hotels has already been identified, and formal agreements with developers are expected soon,” he said. Specifics regarding investment and room capacity, however, remain undisclosed for now.
The hospitality group is also planning to add another unit in Guwahati while expanding its existing property, which currently offers 196 rooms.
A new wing featuring 85 additional rooms is under construction and expected to be operational within a year.
The Guwahati property, launched in 2014 by Dharampal Satyapal Group, was the first five-star hotel in the Northeast.
Radisson currently manages 130 hotels across India and aims to increase this number to 250-300 over the next three years, with a strong focus on tier-II and tier-III cities.

“The Northeast will be a key growth market for us,” Mehrotra said, highlighting the region’s rising demand for premium accommodation.
He noted that the luxury hospitality sector in the region has seen impressive growth, recording an average occupancy of 70-75%, with Radisson properties performing even better at around 80%.
The Assam government’s efforts to boost tourism and the surge in pilgrimage travel, particularly to the Kamakhya temple, have contributed to this upward trend.
“The perception of the Northeast as an unsafe destination is changing rapidly,” Mehrotra added.
