Guwahati: Purabi Dairy has strengthened its presence in eastern Assam’s dairy sector with the installation of a new Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) at Kulajan in Dhemaji district, aimed at boosting milk collection and ensuring better returns for local farmers.
The 3,000-litre-per-day capacity BMC, set up under the East Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (EAMUL), is expected to directly benefit around 500 dairy farmers from 25 villages across the Sissiborgaon and Silapathar areas.
The initiative forms part of the broader Purabi Dairy network, promoted by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (WAMUL) to strengthen the cooperative dairy model across the state.
The facility was inaugurated on October 24 by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Jonai MLA Bhubon Pegu, in the presence of Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner Rahul Suresh Javir and Superintendent of Police Hitesh Ch. Ray.
EAMUL Managing Director Dr. Pritam Kishore Saikia said the new BMC would expand the cooperative’s reach across Dhemaji, marking another step in the ongoing “milk revolution” in eastern Assam.

“With this facility, we can now collect milk from Sissiborgaon to Silapathar. In the coming months, new BMCs at Gogamukh and Laimekuri will further strengthen our network,” he said.
Dr. Saikia added that the cooperative will also extend support to farmers in scientific cattle management to enhance productivity and income.
Senior officials, including Assistant Commissioner Jolly Das, District Veterinary Officer Dr. Girin Saikia, and Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies Chayanika Hazarika, were among those present at the event.
The establishment of the Kulajan BMC marks a key milestone in Purabi Dairy’s efforts to expand its dairy cooperative network in Dhemaji, improve milk quality through reliable chilling infrastructure, and ensure sustainable livelihoods for rural dairy farmers in eastern Assam.
