Guwahati: Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday said the rollout of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) indigenous 4G stack marks India’s entry into a select league of nations manufacturing their own telecom equipment.
Addressing a programme in Guwahati, held alongside the nationwide launch of the 4G network by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Odisha, Scindia said India has become the fifth country to achieve this milestone, joining Denmark, Sweden, China and South Korea.
The minister said the development reflects a dramatic shift in India’s global image—from being seen largely as a services and consumer economy to emerging as a hub of production, innovation, entrepreneurship and exports.
“Earlier, India was a service nation, but now we are a producer nation. Earlier, we were seen as a consumer nation, but today, we are a centre for innovation, entrepreneurship and exports,” Scindia said.
He added that guided by Modi’s vision of “innovate for India, innovate for humanity,” the indigenous 4G rollout will ensure that even the remotest villages, border areas, islands and hilly terrains gain reliable access to high-speed connectivity.
