Northeast CMs laud Union Budget 2025, emphasise benefits for agriculture and MSMEs

Guwahati: The Chief Ministers of the Northeast region have welcomed the Union Budget for 2025, recognising its potential to drive significant development and growth in their respective states.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his excitement over the announcement of a 12.7 lakh metric tonne urea plant in Namrup, Assam, calling it a “game changer” for the entire Northeast.

He highlighted that the plant, which has been a long-standing demand of the people of Assam, would have a transformative impact on the region.

“What a historic day for Assam! The Union Budget 2025 has announced a 12.7 lakh MT urea plant in Namrup, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Assam,” Sarma said in a post on social media.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma also extended his gratitude to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget focused on development.

He commended the budget’s emphasis on ten critical sectors, leveraging four key growth engines: Agriculture, MSMEs, Investments, and Exports.

The Meghalaya government welcomed these initiatives, recognising their potential to positively impact various sectors and benefit the people of the state.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha praised the Union Budget, describing it as a blueprint for a developed India.

He emphasised that the budget prioritises the welfare of farmers, the poor, and the middle class, while addressing vital sectors such as education, healthcare, and innovation.

“The budget also ensures support for start-ups and innovation, which is crucial for the nation’s growth,” he said in a social media post.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also oversees Finance, Planning, and Investment, described the Union Budget 2025-26 as “historic” and a major boost for the middle class.

He particularly lauded the introduction of a zero-tax slab for incomes up to Rs 12 lakh, which he believes will result in higher savings and economic growth.

“This is a historic move that empowers the middle class. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, millions will experience financial relief and prosperity,” Mein said on social media.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang termed the Union Budget 2025-26 as “transformative and inclusive.”

He expressed confidence that the budget is a crucial step toward achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

“The budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is a transformative and inclusive document that resonates with the aspirations of our nation,” he said in his social media post.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh highlighted the Union Budget’s proposal to enhance the investment and turnover limits for the classification of MSMEs.

He stated that this initiative would greatly benefit Manipur, which has seen significant contributions to MSME business registration in the Northeast.

Singh also praised the introduction of a zero-tax slab for incomes up to Rs 12 lakh per year, calling it a step forward in easing the financial burdens on hardworking families.

“The new classification criteria for MSMEs will be highly beneficial for Manipur,” he added.

The Union Budget 2025-26 has received wide approval from the leaders of the Northeast, who recognise its potential to drive inclusive growth and bring prosperity to their states.
