Cars in India are set to get costlier from January 2025. Maruti Suzuki India has announced its plans to increase car prices by up to 4 percent from January 2025, with variations depending on the model.

Maruti is not the only carmaker to increase prices, as Hyundai Motor India, Audi India, Mahindra & Mahindra, JSW MG Motor India, Mercedes-Benz India, and BMW India have made similar announcements in the lead-up to the New Year.

According to Maruti, the forthcoming price increase aims at offsetting the hike in input costs and operational expenses. The Maruti models that will be affected by the price hike are the Alto K10, Dzire, Swift, Brezza, Fronx, Ertiga, Baleno, Wagon R, Celerio, XL6, Ignis, Eeco, Jimny, Grand Vitara, S-Presso, Ciaz, and Invicto.

Maruti offers cars for every budget price point in the mass market space as its most affordable car is the Alto K10 (priced from Rs 3.99 lakh), while the most expensive offering is the Invicto (priced up to Rs 28.92 lakh).

On Thursday, Hyundai Motor India announced a price hike of up to Rs 25,000 for all its models, effective January 1, 2025. Hyundai attributed the increase to rising costs that have impacted profitability.

Earlier this month, Audi India announced its decision to implement a 3 per cent price increase across its portfolio, which includes popular models like the Audi A4, Q7, e-tron GT, and RS Q8.

At the forthcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Maruti is likely to showcase a few new cars, including the production version of its eVitara (formally eVX). The first-ever electric vehicle (EV) from Maruti is expected to go on sale by early 2025.
