Domestic cooking gas prices were increased by Rs. 60 per cylinder on Saturday, pushing the cost of a standard 14.2-kg LPG cylinder to Rs. 913 in Delhi, according to data available on the website of Indian Oil Corporation.

The revised rates came into effect on March 7 and mark the second hike in less than a year.

Before the latest revision, households in the national capital were paying Rs. 853 for a non-subsidised cylinder.

Similar increases have been reflected in other metros, with prices now at Rs. 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs. 939 in Kolkata and Rs. 928.50 in Chennai.

LPG prices vary across states depending on local sales tax or value-added tax.

The increase also affects beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, under which more than 10 crore low-income households received free LPG connections since its launch in 2016.

After factoring in the Rs. 300 subsidy available for up to 12 refills annually, beneficiaries will now pay Rs. 613 per cylinder.

Oil marketing companies adjusted the prices as part of efforts to pass on a portion of rising global energy costs, which have surged in the wake of tensions in West Asia.

This is the second revision in domestic LPG prices within 11 months.

The last increase was announced in April last year, when the price of a cylinder was raised by Rs. 50.

Earlier this month, the cost of commercial LPG cylinders — widely used by restaurants, hotels and other establishments — was also raised.

A 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs. 1,883 in Delhi after a hike of Rs. 114.5.
