Guwahati: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the North East Initiative hailed the Budget 2024 presented on Thursday by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Speaking about the Interim Budget 2024, Mahesh Kumar Saharia, chairman of ICC, North Eastern region said it has been very inclusive, taking all categories of citizens along with all the basic economic parameters.
“The Interim Budget specifically mentioned in her budget speech that the development of East India is a priority. It will boost new economic activities and opportunities for the Northeast,” Saharia said.
Saharia lauded the government for guaranteeing living accommodations for everyone.
“The announcement on twenty million houses through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin underscores the commitment to broaden affordable housing opportunities in rural areas,” Saharia said.
The chairman of ICC said it will not only tackles the housing requirements of rural communities, but also propels growth in the housing sector.
Sarat Kumar Jain, chairman of Assam and Meghalaya Chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) said it is a great initiative that rooftop solar panels will be given to one crore households, and they will get 300 units of free electricity per month.
Jain said the corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore will encourage the private sector to scale up research and innovation significantly in the sunrise domains.
