Kolkata: The Dhunseri Group is all set to buy four tea gardens in Assam from Warren Tea Ltd.
Promoted by Chandra Kumar Dhanuka, the Dhunseri Group will take over the four gardens from Warren Tea Ltd in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Three of the tea estates of Warren Tea Ltd — Duamara, Tara and Deohall — are being bought by Dhunseri Tea & Industries Ltd, while Hatimara estate also of Warren Tea Ltd will be acquired by Madhuting Tea Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary cocpamy of the Dhunseri Group.
The Dhunseri Group is likely to take over the four gardens from Janruary 1, and now will have over 10.5 million kilograms of tea of its own production, including one million kilograms of premium orthodox tea.
The Dhunseri Group also produces over 3.5 million kilograms bought leaf from small tea growers in Assam. The group also has tea plantations in Malawi, Africa, where it produces over 9 million kg of tea.
For the time being, the Dhunseri Group plans to remain just a producer and not create its own tea brands as branding requires large resources.
