The cost of commercial LPG cylinders has been hiked from January 1, adding to operating expenses for hotels, restaurants and other business users at the start of the new year.

Oil marketing companies have increased the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 111 with immediate effect.

Following the revision, the retail price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder in Delhi now stands at Rs 1,691.50.

Prices of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders have also been revised upward.

The 5-kg FTL cylinder has become costlier by Rs 27, effective January 1.

Household consumers, however, have been spared from the latest increase.

The price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged, offering relief to families amid rising costs elsewhere.

The hike in commercial LPG rates is expected to impact sectors that depend heavily on these cylinders, including eateries, catering units and small businesses, where fuel constitutes a significant share of operating expenses.

The decision to keep domestic LPG prices steady, meanwhile, ensures household budgets remain unaffected.

In August, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said the Centre’s decision to compensate oil marketing companies helped maintain stable LPG prices despite global uncertainties.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved a compensation package of Rs 30,000 crore to be paid in 12 instalments to oil companies to offset losses incurred from holding LPG prices steady.

The revised commercial LPG rates will remain in force until further review by oil marketing companies.
