Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday hosted Bhutan’s Agriculture and Livestock Minister Younten Phuntsho to discuss avenues for enhanced collaboration between Assam and Bhutan across various sectors.
“It was a pleasure to host Hon’ble Agriculture and Livestock Minister of Bhutan, H.E. Mr. Younten Phuntsho. We had insightful discussions on strengthening cooperation between Assam and Bhutan in shared growth areas such as agriculture, trade, tourism, education, and power,” Sarma shared on X.
Phuntsho visited Guwahati to participate in the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, which concluded on Wednesday.
During their discussions, the leaders emphasised deepening bilateral ties and identifying new opportunities for economic and social progress, particularly in agriculture, livestock, trade, tourism, education, and power.
In addition to meeting the chief minister, Phuntsho held discussions with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
The talks focused on fostering collaboration in agriculture, eco-tourism, education, and trade while exploring sustainable development initiatives and investment opportunities.

Governor Acharya highlighted the historical ties between Assam and Bhutan and proposed joint initiatives in eco-tourism and conservation, including the creation of spiritual tourism circuits.
He also lauded Assam’s commitment to Bhutanese students through reserved medical college seats and commended Bhutan’s achievements in organic farming.
The Bhutanese delegation introduced the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, seeking support from Assam for its development.
Governor Acharya expressed Assam’s willingness to assist, further reinforcing the bond between the neighbouring regions.
