Guwahati: The West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd (WAMUL), which operates under the brand Purabi Dairy, has signed a strategic partnership with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to double its production capacity to 3 lakh litres per day (LLPD).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalised during the recently held ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ business summit, marking a significant step in the expansion of the Guwahati-based milk producer.
“The expansion initiative, with an estimated investment of Rs. 100 crore, aims to increase the production capacity of Purabi Dairy’s Panjabari plant from the current 1.5 LLPD to 3 LLPD, ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality dairy products to cater to rising consumer demand,” WAMUL stated.
As part of the project, the production of fermented milk products will grow from 20 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) to 50 MTPD.
Additionally, a new ice cream production facility with a capacity of 20 tonnes per day (TLPD) will be established.
This expansion will not only bolster the supply chain but also enhance earnings for dairy farmers by focusing on value-added products, according to WAMUL.
In a related development, WAMUL had signed an agreement with the Assam government in July last year to manage a 5,000-litre daily capacity dairy plant in Dhemaji district.
