GUWAHATI: Purabi Dairy has set an ambitious target of surpassing Rs 350 crore in turnover for the financial year (FY) 2024-25, following a remarkable 28% growth in the last fiscal year (FY). With a turnover exceeding Rs 262 crore, the dairy cooperative has also expanded its reach in Upper Assam.
Also known as the West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (WAMUL), the dairy cooperative witnessed a surge in standardised milk sales by over 20%, resulting in a turnover exceeding Rs 200 crore in liquid milk sales for the first time in FY 2023-24.
The Northeast’s largest dairy cooperative saw milk product sales soar by 35%, with significant increases across categories like curd (47%), ghee (38%), paneer (36%), and lassi (16%).

He also extends heartfelt thanks to the hardworking dairy farmers for their dedication and resilience in achieving these numbers. “This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting dairy farmers and promoting sustainable practices in Assam,” he added.
The cooperative has also highlighted the role of the defence forces in this achievement. The unwavering support of the Indian Army has contributed to Purabi Dairy’s growth. “It has been observed that the demand for fresh milk from the cooperative sector is on the rise over the years among our defence forces,” a statement issued by the Dairy read.
Recently, the cooperative has been expanding its footprint beyond its traditional markets to Tinsukia in Upper Assam and Dhubri in the west.
Additionally, the dairy’s products are now available in the North Bank of Assam – in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts, marking a significant geographical expansion.
Furthermore, with the revival of East Assam Milk Union Ltd. (EAMUL) under the “Purabi” umbrella, the total milk procurement of the cooperative has now crossed 80,000 litres per day through more than 900 Dairy Cooperative Societies.
As the cooperative continues to grow, its impact on farmers’ livelihoods and the overall development of the dairy sector in the state is expected to increase.
