Guwahati: Consumers in Assam and the Northeast will soon pay less for popular Purabi Dairy products, with the company announcing price cuts following the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reductions cleared by the 56th GST Council.
North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), which markets Purabi products manufactured by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), said the revised prices will take effect from September 22.
Products such as Purabi Paneer, Ghee, Flavoured Milk, Ice-Cream, and UHT Milk will now be available at lower rates.
Under the new GST structure, paneer and UHT milk have been exempted from tax. Ice-cream will attract 5% GST, down from 18%, while ghee has moved to the 5% slab from 12%.
With this, the entire Purabi portfolio now falls either under the nil or lowest GST category.
As a result, the price of Purabi Paneer (200g) has been reduced from Rs. 95 to Rs. 92, Purabi Ghee (500ml) from Rs. 450 to Rs. 420, and Purabi Flavoured Milk from Rs. 30 to Rs. 25.

The UHT Smart 1-litre pack will cost Rs. 74, while ice-cream prices have been reduced across all variants.
WAMUL Managing Director S.K. Parida said the GST reform will make dairy products more affordable and accessible, while creating greater demand and strengthening the sector.
“It will empower farmers, drive sustainable growth, and fuel India’s rural economy. Purabi Dairy remains committed to ensuring these benefits reach every household,” he said.
NEDFL Managing Director S.B. Bose added that the company is directly passing on the GST benefits to consumers, while ensuring that the price reduction boosts demand and benefits thousands of dairy farmers associated with WAMUL and EAMUL.
