In a pioneering collaboration, Airtel Business, the B2B arm of Bharti Airtel, has unveiled plans to fuel the deployment of over 20 million smart meters for Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), revolutionising India’s power sector.
Airtel’s robust nationwide communications network will play a pivotal role in delivering reliable and secure connectivity for AESL’s ambitious smart metering initiative.
The transformative smart metering solutions, fuelled by Narrow-Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT), 4G, and 2G technologies, promise real-time connectivity and seamless data transfer between smart meters and headend applications.
Airtel’s IoT platform, the “Airtel IoT Hub”, will further enhance this sophisticated system.
The platform offers smart meter tracking, advanced analytics, diagnostic capabilities, and real-time insights, providing consumers with unprecedented control over their energy consumption.
Adani Energy Solutions holds a substantial order book, with over 20 million smart meters earmarked for deployment across Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.
The move aligns with India’s ambitious Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), marking a significant stride towards a smarter and more efficient power grid.
Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, CEO of Airtel Business (India), highlighted the transformative impact of India’s smart metering programme.
He anticipates Airtel’s NB-IoT technology to play a pivotal role in connecting and managing smart meters at scale, ensuring enhanced coverage, reliability, and security.
Lakshminarayanan expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with the Adani Group, stating, “We look forward to a long and fruitful association with the Adani Group, supporting them in their endeavours to digitise utilities.”
Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., shared his perspective on the partnership, highlighting the joint effort to realise a vision of a smarter, more efficient grid.
“This powerful combination will enable us to seamlessly deploy our current order book of over 20 million smart meters across India, empowering millions of consumers with real-time consumption data and control, while simultaneously driving down inefficiencies in the distribution network,” Patel stated, underscoring the transformative potential of this collaboration.
