Mumbai: Air India, which was taken over by the Tata Group, is getting ready for “competition” with addition of 150 new aircrafts from Boeing.
The Tata Group is working out a deal with Boeing to buy 150 brand new 737 Max aircrafts. It is definitely one of the biggest buying offers to Boeing.
The Air India – Boeing deal is likely to be signed in the coming week, and Air India is trying to take delivery of 50 numbers of 737 MAX aircrafts as early as March next 2023.
Sources said Air India decided to place orders for the new aircrafts with Boeing as Airbus could not guarantee delivery of 320 Neo aircrafts before mid-2025.
But, Beoing, which is manufacturing more than 100 aircrafts for South China Airways, reportedly promised to deliver at least 50 numbers of 737 Max aircrafts within the next six months.
Air India is now eyeing at least 30 percent market share both on domestic and international routes in the next five years. At present, IndiGo is the largest market share.
Air India also roped in British brand and design consultancy firm Futurebrands to rework on its branding strategy.
