Barpeta: In a major boost to Barpeta’s industrial growth, 75 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) amounting to an investment of Rs. 202.22 crore were signed at the Advantage Assam 2.0 event on Wednesday.

These agreements mark a significant step in fostering entrepreneurship, attracting investments, and creating new opportunities for the region’s businesses and communities.

Held at the District Commissioner’s Office in Barpeta, the event was chaired by District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha and attended by entrepreneurs, government officials, and key stakeholders.

The ceremony began with a live-streamed speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, viewed by attendees in the presence of the District Commissioner.

In his inaugural address, DC Jha underscored the importance of Advantage Assam 2.0, a government initiative designed to promote industrialisation and drive economic development across the state.

He highlighted the programme’s potential to transform Barpeta’s local economy by attracting investments and creating employment opportunities.

Entrepreneurs shared their business plans and outlined their expectations from the government, calling for better infrastructure and sustained policy support to facilitate growth.

General Manager of the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC), Pranjan Rajmedhi, elaborated on the government’s efforts to support entrepreneurs under Advantage Assam 2.0.

He outlined various schemes offering financial assistance, subsidies, and infrastructure development opportunities.

Rajmedhi reassured attendees that the government is committed to helping businesses overcome challenges and expand operations.

The DC also announced plans to boost industrial activity in Barpeta, including the establishment of a 40-bigha industrial park under AIDC Ltd. at Bahari and the allocation of 20 bighas of land at Sorbhog for prospective investors.

He assured further land allotments to support industrial projects in the district.

The sectors attracting the most investments during the event were healthcare, food processing, and hospitality, including hotels and resorts.

These investments are expected to drive economic growth and generate significant employment in Barpeta.
