After years of anticipation, two major international airports in India are set to open in 2025, poised to revolutionize the country’s travel landscape. Officials have confirmed that Navi Mumbai International Airport will launch mid-year, while Noida International Airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is slated to open in the third week of April 2025.
Mumbai’s long-awaited second international airport, located in Navi Mumbai, is expected to open in April 2025. The first phase will feature a single terminal, one runway, and a full-length parallel taxiway. Eventually, the airport will expand to include four terminals and two runways, increasing capacity and easing the pressure on the city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Positioned near Panvel, the new airport will also benefit travelers from Pune, whose limited air connectivity often forces them to fly out of Mumbai, adding considerable travel time. Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., which also manages Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, is developing the project. While the specific airlines and flights to operate from the airport have yet to be confirmed, it is expected to become a key hub for both domestic and international flights.
Noida International Airport, located in Jewar, will officially open on April 17, 2025. The airport will begin operations in phases, with the first phase featuring one terminal, one runway, 10 aerobridges, and 25 parking stands. In this phase, the airport will handle 65 daily flights—62 domestic, two international, and one cargo flight. Leading Indian carriers IndiGo and Akasa Air have confirmed they will operate from the new airport. International flights will include destinations like Zurich, Singapore, and Dubai, while domestic services will connect to cities such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, and Hubli. The development of Noida International Airport is being led by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, raising expectations for the airport’s success as a major travel hub.
Both airports are expected to significantly enhance India’s air connectivity, reducing congestion at existing airports and providing more convenience for travelers across the country.
