Guwahati: Congress General Secretary and Chairperson of Assam Screening Committee Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited ‘Zubeen Kshetra’ in Sonapur on Friday morning to pay tributes to late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. While speaking to media persons, she said, “Zubeen Garg was above politics. His cremation ground should be a sacred place and should not be used for politics.”
Vadra was accompanied by Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh.
Recalling his cultural influence, she added Zubeen Garg gave voice to the sentiments of the people of Assam.
“We should not take political advantage of these things. This is an emotion. Yesterday I spoke to my party workers about it. When Zubeen ji died, those who are not from Assam saw how much people loved him and how they respected him. Every member of each family cried. We saw all these on social media and the news.”
“Our fight is to protect Assam’s culture and heritage. No one should use him for political gains,” she added.

She further urged the people of Assam to remain aware and choose leaders who work for them and focus on strengthening the state.
She said, “The youths and women of the state want jobs. People want to know what the Chief Minister is doing for them. Chief Minister cannot mislead the youth of the state. This is what I have to say to the people of Assam- Be aware and choose the one who works for you and talks about strengthening the state.”
Reportedly, Vadra held separate meetings with the political affairs committee, MLAs, district presidents, heads of frontal organisations, legislature party leaders, MPs, cell heads and booth committee chiefs, among others during her Guwahati visit.
