Guwahati: Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg, a cousin of late singer Zubeen Garg, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore last month, a senior police officer said.
This is the fifth arrest made in the case so far.
Earlier, North East India Festival chief organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and two of his band members — Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta — were apprehended.
CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta said that the police had arrested Sandipan Garg and were in the process of completing the necessary legal formalities.
According to police sources, the deputy superintendent of police had been interrogated multiple times in recent days regarding the incident.
Sandipan Garg was reportedly present with the singer during the alleged drowning in Singapore.
“Our team has produced him before a court and will seek police remand,” another senior officer said.
