Guwahati: Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, has welcomed the Special Investigation Team’s chargesheet that named four individuals in connection with the singer’s murder.

The SIT of the Assam Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday formally submitted the chargesheet, spanning more than 3,500 pages, in the mysterious death case of the singer to the CJM Court in Guwahati.

“The investigation was initiated based on the FIR filed by our family against the accused. The probe proceeded along the expected lines, for which we are extremely grateful to the investigating agency,” Garima said.

She said the outcome of the investigation aligned with public expectations and added, “Now everything depends on the judicial process, which we hope will proceed smoothly. We have full faith in our country’s judiciary and want the guilty to be punished accordingly.”

Garima also said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that the Chief Justice would be requested to constitute a fast-track court. “We want the matter to be resolved at the earliest. Our home has been shattered, and people are deeply disturbed that someone like Zubeen Garg could be killed. The entire state of Assam wants the guilty to be punished,” she said.

Responding to questions about the involvement of Singaporean authorities in the investigation, Garima said the probe is based on the FIR filed by the family and reiterated their complete faith in both the investigation and the judiciary.

The SIT probing Garg’s death filed a chargesheet charging four accused — including the singer’s manager Siddhartha Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta — with murder. Garg’s band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, have also been charged with murder.

Mahanta was the chief organiser of the North East India Festival, which Garg had travelled to Singapore to attend. The singer died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea on September 19.

The singer’s two personal security officers (PSOs), Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, have been charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust for allegedly misappropriating funds or property entrusted to them, officials said.
