Guwahati: A group of fifteen enthusiastic youths participated in a Nature Walk organised by Aaranyak at the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, aiming to deepen their connection with nature and wildlife.
This event, part of Aaranyak’s WeForNature programme, was held in collaboration with the Assam State Zoo authority and supported by Zeiss India.
Covering 175 hectares, the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is the largest in Northeast India, playing a vital role in wildlife conservation, education, and eco-tourism.
Home to a variety of animal species, including rare and endangered ones, the zoo also engages in significant conservation efforts, such as breeding programmes to protect native wildlife.
During the walk, participants explored the zoo’s ecosystems and surrounding forest areas, gaining insights into the importance of ex-situ conservation, zoo breeding programmes, environmental ethics, and the role of botanical gardens in conservation.

The initiative encouraged observation and documentation of nature while fostering a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.
The event was led by Senior Scientist Udayan Borthakur of Aaranyak, Biologist Pranjal Mahananda of the Assam State Zoo, and plant ecology expert Mitali Baruah, with coordination by Organizing Officer Pranab Goswami.
Aaranyak’s WeForNature programme reflects its commitment to raising environmental awareness among youth, ensuring future generations are inspired to protect and preserve nature.
The initiative highlights a collective effort to promote conservation ethics while strengthening the connection between young individuals and the natural world.
