GUWAHATI: In a bid to augment the social and spiritual well-being of Guwahati’s residents, the Indian Yoga Culture and Yoga Therapy Centre (IYC&YTC), Maliagon, has launched an innovative programme targeting every household in the city.

The initiative, known as the “Anna Sewa Project”, aims to encourage health-conscious citizens to contribute to the welfare of the less fortunate.

As part of the project, individuals are invited to donate food items, particularly rice, to support old-age homes, orphanages, and those in need throughout Guwahati.

Yogacharya Subhasis, President of IYC&YTC, outlined the details of the initiative, stating that the Centre’s team of yoga teachers plans to distribute 100 clay pots among practitioners.

“Participants will be encouraged to deposit a palmful of rice in these pots daily, which will then be collected by the Centre’s team on a monthly basis. The accumulated rice will subsequently be distributed to various charitable institutions in and around the city,” said Subhasis.

The launch event, attended by esteemed names including author Amar Krishna Paul, Dr. Indrani Deka from Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, Jinti Das, ACS, and Biresh Das, symbolised a collective commitment to combating hunger and supporting the needy in Guwahati and beyond.

The “Anna Sewa Project” embodies simplicity and inclusivity, allowing individuals from all walks of life to contribute to a noble cause.

Additionally, the ceremony witnessed the announcement of another significant initiative by the Assam Yoga Mahasangha.

In preparation for the upcoming 10th International Day of Yoga 2024 in June, the organisation revealed plans to host free yoga camps across all 32 districts of Assam.

These camps aim to promote physical and mental well-being, fostering a culture of holistic health and harmony among citizens.

Furthermore, the Purbanchal Gramya Mahila Yoga Foundation outlined its agenda for promoting yoga in rural areas, including specialised camps for marginalised communities and villages, as well as Yogasana Challenges scheduled for May 16.

Through initiatives such as the “Anna Sewa Project” and the dedicated efforts of organizations like the Assam Yoga Mahasangha and the Purbanchal Gramya Mahila Yoga Foundation, the community is poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of its most vulnerable members.
