New Delhi: The North East Media Forum (NEMF), in association with My Home India, has announced the winners of the 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards – 2025.
The awards are given to journalists who have excelled in their reportage on issues relating to the North Eastern region.
Kalyan Barooah was the correspondent of The Assam Tribune in New Delhi, breathed his last in the aftermath of the deadly 2nd wave of Covid 19 Pandemic in 2021.
Barooah’s immense contribution towards bringing issues of North East India into national focus is remembered by all.
It was during a memorial meeting organised by the North East Media Forum in association with Press Club of India on May 1, 2022 that Sunil Deodhar, the founder of social organisation My Home India, had announced the initiation of awards for media-persons from North East India in memory of the late Barooah.
The 1st and 2nd Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards ceremony were held on December 11, 2023 and 2024 at Constitution Club, New Delhi.
For the for 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025, the five-member jury comprised of former AIR Director General Moushumi Chakrabarty, senior journalists Achinta Bora, Sandeep Phukan, Sachin Gogoi, and IIMC Aizawl Regional Director Prof. Shashwati Goswami.
The jury evaluated the nominations received across different categories, and announced the winners on Sunday.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Monalisa Changkija of Nagaland Page for her remarkable and sustained contribution to journalism in the North East India region.
In the Print Category, Amal Goswami, Chief Staff Reporter of Dainik Janambhumi, Assam, was declared the winner.
The Electronic Media Award went to Kshetrimayum Premchand, Chief Reporter of SKTV News, Imphal, Manipur.
In the Digital Media category, Mridul Kumar Handique of Pratidin Digital bagged the award.
No entries were received for the Still Photography and Videography categories.
The awards will be formally presented on December 11, 2025, at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late Kalyan Barooah.
