Guwahati: Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organization in the region, joined forces with Assam‘s Raimona National Park and the Kachugaon Division to celebrate Wildlife Week 2024.
The event took place on October 5 at the Central Range in Kachugaon.
The programme was graced by Bhanu Sinha, Divisional Forest Officer, Kachagaon Division; Biswajit Basumatary, Deputy Range Officer, Sanfan Range; Dibash Sarkar, Chairman of Kachugaon Village Council Development Committee, among others.
In his speech, Sinha highlighted the significance of Wildlife Week as well as the importance of forests to wildlife.
As many as thirty-seven students from grades 8 to 10 of Kachugaon Public School participated in the Wildlife Week event.
In addition, Gaon Buhras (village elders) and community members from nearby villages around the Central Range also joined the celebrations.
As part of the celebration, students participated in a wildlife-themed poster preparation workshop.
The event was organised to raise awareness and educate children and the community about the importance of biodiversity conservation and human-wildlife cooperation in and around Raimona National Park.
Aaranyak officials Momita Narzary moderated the event and Binod Deuri, Stephen Basumatry, and Birdutta Baro contributed in organising the event.
Dr. Dipankar Lahkar, Senior Manager and Conservation Biologist in Aaranyak, coordinated the event and moderated the poster presentation session. The event concluded with a certificate and a prize distribution ceremony.

India celebrates Wildlife Week every year from October 2 to October 8. It aims to raise awareness about the protection of wildlife, conservation of biodiversity, and the importance of preserving natural habitats for future generations.
