Guwahati: American rapper Post Malone will perform in Guwahati on December 8, marking his first-ever concert in the region.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the event is part of the state government’s newly launched policy to promote ‘concert tourism’ in the state.
The initiative is aimed at boosting tourism, culture, and local businesses through large-scale live music events.
CM Sarma, after a cabinet meeting at Dergaon in Golaghat district on Wednesday, stated that neighbouring state Meghalaya had been organizing concerts. He added that there had been a Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad, which reportedly generated Rs 600 crore in revenue for that state.
” We had mentioned a policy on concert tourism in this year’s budget. The Cabinet approved this today [Wednesday],” he said.
The chief minister said Guwahati, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh will host concerts.
“Assam had been left out of the concert tourism economy…with the new policy, we believe we can have a healthy competition with Meghalaya,” said Sarma.
Officials expect the event to attract large crowds, giving a significant boost to the local hospitality and tourism sectors.

This will be Post Malone’s second performance in India. He first performed in December 2022 at the Zomato Feeding India Concert held at Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai, in front of a crowd of over 25,000 fans.
The event aimed to raise awareness about malnutrition in India and was organised in collaboration with Zomato’s non-profit arm, Feeding India.
