GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister has thanked Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman for proposing special central assistance for the state in the Union Budget to meet the challenges posed by recurring floods.
In a statement on X, the chief minister wrote, “We are extremely grateful for the special assistance Assam will receive under this Budget to help meet the challenges posed by floods.”
FM Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024 on Tuesday during the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament.
The finance minister, in her budget speech, announced significant funding for flood management projects in Assam as part of the 2024-25 Union Budget.
She highlighted that Assam, along with Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, will receive focused support to mitigate the impacts of recent natural disasters.
Complimenting the Finance Minister for the budget, CM Sarma said, ”My compliments to Hon’ble Union Minister Smt @nsitharaman ji and her team for presenting a budget that lays down a solid roadmap to maintain India’s growth momentum and seeks to propel our economy to the world’s third largest, as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji.”
“The excellent reforms announced for land registration will complement our ongoing efforts like Mission Basundhara 3.0,” the Chief Minister stated.
CM Sarma said that the Union Budget 2024 has several progressive measures such as the review of the IT Act, withdrawal of Angel Tax, reducing the fiscal deficit, sustaining capex, and several other measures that will ensure India remains the fastest-growing economy for years to come.
The Chief Minister said that enhanced allocation under the PM Awas Yojana and Schemes such as PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan will also have a net positive impact in Assam.
The infrastructure push via Rs 1.5 lakh crore to states focus on improving agricultural productivity, green energy initiatives and generous allocation for rural development would also have a multiplier effect on Assam’s growth, Sarma said.
He said the Budget has also made a provision to implement the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana. “With an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore this scheme will provide several welfare opportunities for Assam’s tea garden community,” the chief minister said.
