Guwahati: Two individuals were injured when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel used pellet firing to defend themselves during an alleged attack by miscreants in the South Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam, officials reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday in Diwaneralga village, where, according to an official statement, miscreants launched a “premeditated attack” on BSF personnel.
“This act was orchestrated by a group of individuals attempting to retaliate against the BSF’s successful anti-smuggling operations in the region, likely fearing intensified enforcement measures,” the statement said.
BSF Guwahati Frontier Public Relations Officer emphasized the restraint shown by the personnel, stating, “Despite being targeted, the BSF acted in self-defense with controlled measures to prevent further violence, ensuring minimal collateral damage.”

The pellet firing, described as a non-lethal defensive response, reportedly resulted in injuries to two individuals identified among the attackers.
The BSF has since identified eight individuals involved in the assault and has lodged an FIR with local police to initiate further legal proceedings.
