Kokrajhar: Bodoland University has earned international recognition after two of its faculty members were named in the Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists List 2025.
The annual list, prepared by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, evaluates researchers worldwide on the basis of standardised citation indicators, including citations, h-index and co-authorship-adjusted metrics.
The database spans 22 fields and 174 subfields, assessing both career-long and single-year scientific contributions.
This year, 6,239 Indian researchers feature in the single-year citation impact category, while 3,372 have been ranked for career-long impact.
From Bodoland University, Dr. Hemen Sarma, Associate Professor and Head of the Botany Department, has secured a place in both the career-long and single-year categories.
Ranked 41,711 globally in 2025, Dr. Sarma has also appeared in the single-year list for three consecutive years.
His research focuses on nanomaterials, pollution mitigation and phytoremediation.

Prof. Sanjay Basumatary, Head of the Chemistry Department, has been included in the single-year category for his work in sustainable energy, catalysis and advanced materials.
He holds a global rank of 96,146 and has figured in the list for two consecutive years.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. L. Ahuja and Registrar Dr. Subung Basumatary congratulated the two scientists, calling their achievement a matter of pride for both the university and the Bodoland region.
They said the recognition highlights the growing academic excellence emerging from Assam’s 6th Schedule area and will encourage young scholars to pursue impactful research.
