Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities in Assam, two suspected drug peddlers have been arrested and contraband worth over Rs 2.5 crore has been seized in two separate operations.
One operation was conducted in Cachar district and another in Sribhumi district.
“Twice Struck, Twice Stopped. In two separate operations, @cacharpolice seized 410g of heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore and arrested one peddler,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X on Thursday evening.
In the second operation, police in Sribhumi confiscated 630 bottles of cough syrup and detained another peddler.
Reiterating the state’s strong stance against narcotics, Sarma added, “@assampolice stands united with one goal – #AssamAgainstDrugs.”

On August 27, Sribhumi Police arrested four suspected drug traffickers and seized a significant cache of narcotics at Puwamara. The seizure included 650 grams of heroin and 10,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated street value of Rs 5 crore.
