Guwahati: Train services to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as landslides caused by “improper” road repair work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) continued to obstruct tracks in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
Several trains have been fully or partially cancelled as railway teams work round-the-clock to clear the debris.
A statement from NFR highlighted that efforts are being monitored closely by senior officials to expedite restoration.
“In light of the recent landslide incident that disrupted train services in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section, the railways and state authorities are working tirelessly to restore normal operations,” the statement read.
Top officials from NFR, the state government, NHAI, and other agencies held a review meeting to assess the situation and devise immediate solutions.
Heavy machinery and manpower have been deployed at the site to clear approximately 30,000 cubic meters of remaining debris before track repair work can commence.
“Railway teams are operating on a war footing, and senior officials from the Lumding division and headquarters are stationed at the site to coordinate restoration efforts,” the release added.
Passenger and railway asset safety remain the top priority, prompting the suspension of operations until the tracks are deemed safe.
Affected passengers have been advised to stay updated on train schedules through official websites, helplines, and social media channels.
Trains such as the Agartala–SMVB (Bengaluru) Express, Silchar–New Delhi Express, Rangiya–Silchar Express, Guwahati–Silchar Express, and SMVT Bengaluru–Agartala Humsafar Express are among those cancelled.
Others, including the Deoghar–Agartala Express, Sealdah–Sabroom Kanchanjunga Express, and Silchar–Coimbatore Express, have been partially cancelled.

The disruption stems from boulders and mud sliding onto the railway tracks in the New Haflong–Jatinga Lampur section.
The NFR bulletin attributes the incident to improper construction practices by the NHAI during road repair works.
Efforts are ongoing to restore services at the earliest, with officials assuring passengers that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety and minimize inconvenience.
