GUWAHATI: A decade after the first “Local Kung Fu” captivated movie lovers in Assam, Kenny Basumatary and his team are returning to the screen to entertain the audiences with the third film in the series “Local Kung Fu 3”.
Ahead of its theatrical release on September 5, the highly anticipated film’s poster and trailer were unveiled at Jyotichitraban on Tuesday.
“The most fun part is that the beloved characters of Local Kung Fu 1—Bonzo, Dulu, Tansen, Montu da, Charlie—are back in Local Kung Fu 3,” said actor and film director Kenny Basumatary.
“We even have a small localverse happening with Mama-Bhagin from Local Kung Fu 2 now entering the world of LKF.”
Along with regulars, the new additions to the cast are actress Rimpi Das as Charlie’s love interest, Rohan Das as Dulu Tansen’s Big Boss, Javed Akhtar and Rubul Boro as the new villains.
The film’s music is the most ambitious among all of Kenny’s films, with 8 songs in the album.
The songs have a blend of seasoned voices like Achurjya Borpatra, Shashwati Phukan, Neel Akash, Raaj J Konwar, and Ambar Das, along with upcoming artists such as Shady Mellow, Janam Kashyap, Sneha, and Sruti Sarma.
Bonny Deori has also sung a special song called “I’m Gonna Give Dhulai”, a sequel to his hugely popular “Number one under-18 don is Bonzo.”
Speaking about releasing the film, Kenny said, “It’s a wonderful coincidence that we’re releasing the film on Teachers’ Day because the teacher-student bond is the most important relationship in the film. For this very reason, we had a very beautiful song composed by Raaj J Konwar for the occasion – Guru Mur, Guru Aamar. Sung by Achurjya Borpatra with lyrics by Rajdweep, I hope this song becomes a regular at Teachers’ Day functions.”
From playing the main villain in Local Kung Fu 2, Bibhuti Bhushan Hazarika is now playing the ideal teacher in LKF 3. Among his students are Adrita Parasa Mahanta and first-timer Farennya Kashyap.
“Written and edited by Kenny himself, the film features a talented team including Suruj Deka on camera, Anupam Baishya as line producer, Bibhash Sinha as production manager, and Tony Deori Basumatary and Derrick Correia handling the distinctive background music.
The team also includes Anmol Raj Saikia as chief assistant director, Biswa Kalita as head of makeup, Jyoti Shankar Bhattacharya in the art department, Shyamal Das for color grading, and Prem Rabha in costumes.
The team said that they had spent double the entire budget of LKF 1 only on costumes in LKF 3, and it’s been totally worth it because it shows on screen. The publicity design is by Abhijit Laskar and Tonmoy Kakoti.

“Local Kung Fu 3 is a film for everyone from children to grandparents. If someone wants to rewatch LKF 1 or show it to their young children, they can watch it on Reeldrama along with our other films,” said Kenny.
Local Kung Fu 3 actor Rimpi Das said, “I am really happy that LKF3 will be releasing soon and this project is very close to my heart. We have done whatever is required to entertain the audience. I am sure people will love it like the way we have received love over the period of time.”
