GUWAHATI: The Territorial Army (TA) marked its Platinum Jubilee Year with a fervent commitment to environmental conservation through a series of awareness programmes and mass plantation drives on World Environment Day, observed today.
The event unfolded in the schools of Gamani and Garobasti in the Sonitpur district, underscoring the TA’s dedication to fostering environmental awareness and action at the grassroots level.
The event was a part of a series of such measures planned by the 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, Assam throughout the Platinum Jubilee Year to promote environmental awareness and sustainability
Since its inception, the 134 ETF has been instrumental in environmental conservation efforts in the Sonitpur and Biswanath districts of Assam, playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the rich biodiversity of the region.
To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee, the 134 ETF has been organising large-scale plantation drives, planting over 5,000 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees in local villages and schools.
This initiative garnered enthusiastic participation from local villagers and school children, reflecting the community’s commitment to enhancing the green cover of their surroundings.
During the event, ETF personnel engaged with community members and children, stressing on the importance of protecting ecosystems, especially vulnerable and endangered species of flora and fauna.
They highlighted that the success of any ecological mission hinges on the active involvement of the local community.
The spirited participation of school children, in particular, was a heartening proof to their dedication to environmental stewardship.
