Tezpur: Senior ULFA(I) leader Arunodoi Asom, also known as Arunodoi Dohotia, who recently surrendered along with his bodyguard, will be kept in custody in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Rangapara, Sonitpur district, Sarma said the surrendered militant will be lodged in Tinsukia and is unlikely to be taken outside the state.
“As far as I know, they won’t be taken to Delhi. They will remain in Tinsukia. At most, they may be brought to Guwahati to meet the DGP,” the chief minister said.

He declined to share further details on the surrender operation, including the location where it took place.
Sarma reiterated that any peace process with the proscribed outfit can move forward only if ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah agrees to participate in talks.
“There is no point talking with someone else,” he added.
Dohotia, considered a key figure in the organisation, is one of the accused in the killing of Assam Police officer Bhaskar Kalita during an anti-ULFA(I) operation in 2018.
