Guwahati: A 24-member delegation from South Korea is currently visiting Assam to delve into the rich legacy of the state’s 200-year-old tea industry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma wrote, “Building Bonds over Tea. A 24-member delegation from South Korea is on a visit to Assam to explore our rich 200-year-old tea heritage.”
As part of their tour, the delegation visited the historic Meleng Tea Estate in Jorhat, where they engaged with estate officials and workers.
They observed the entire tea production process, from leaf plucking to processing, and were reportedly captivated by the experience, the chief minister added in an accompanying video clip.
The visiting team includes prominent international researchers, scholars, and academics with a keen interest in cultural exchange and tourism.
According to Sarma, they are committed to promoting Assam’s unique tea tourism offerings on the global map.

“We are deeply grateful to the global community for recognising and honouring Assam’s cultural richness and enduring legacy,” Sarma said, expressing appreciation for the delegation’s interest and efforts.
The visit comes amid ongoing initiatives by the Assam government to boost tea tourism and spotlight the state’s iconic tea estates as cultural and historical destinations.
