Dibrugarh: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stone for the new bhawan of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dibrugarh, on Saturday.

The project, which has been a long-standing concern for the local community, will be constructed with an investment of Rs. 38 crore.

Addressing the gathering, Sonowal expressed his commitment to strengthening the educational infrastructure in the region.

“Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dibrugarh, has been a beacon of excellence in education, shaping generations of students. With the foundation of this new building, inspired by the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ laid out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing young minds and empowering the future of Assam and the nation,” he said.

The Union Minister emphasised the importance of the new infrastructure in providing world-class facilities for both students and educators.

“This new facility will create a holistic learning environment, benefiting not only the students but also teachers and parents. As India moves towards becoming an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat,’ institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya play a pivotal role in inspiring, innovating, and preparing our youth to lead the nation into a prosperous future.”

Sonowal also acknowledged the support of Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, for ensuring the necessary funds for the construction.

He further highlighted the importance of aligning the project with the National Education Policy’s vision for inclusive and holistic education.

“The new building will strengthen Kendriya Vidyalaya’s role in shaping future leaders. We also need to ensure that the design incorporates ample green spaces, offering students an environment that fosters curiosity and creativity. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, education is being transformed to empower the youth with knowledge, values, and sustainability,” Sonowal added.

The union minister underscored the critical role of education in driving growth, emphasising Dibrugarh’s potential as a hub for innovation and economic development.

Strengthening institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya will empower future generations to lead and transform the city’s future.”

Also present at the event were Minister of Power, Skill Development, Medical Education, and MLA of Dibrugarh, Prasanta Phukan; Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, Dr. Saikat Patra; Vice Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), Rituparna Baruah; Chairman of Assam Petro Chemicals Limited, Bikul Deka; District Commissioner of Dibrugarh; and the Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya Dibrugarh, among others.
