Guwahati: A 75-year-old woman in Guwahati has been diagnosed with a human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection, marking the second reported case in Assam this season.
The woman is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital, where her condition is described as stable, and she has been isolated for her safety, according to a hospital official on Tuesday.
Although no official confirmation has been provided by the state government, the hospital reported that the infection was detected during routine tests after the woman was admitted for treatment a few days ago.
Earlier this month, a 10-month-old child from Lakhimpur was the first confirmed case of HMPV in Assam this season.

The child was treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.
HMPV is a respiratory virus that can affect individuals of all ages, particularly during the winter and early spring months.
In most cases, the infection is mild and self-limiting, with most patients recovering without the need for extensive medical intervention.
