Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro District Administration has announced the closure of all government, provincialized, and private schools in the district from September 24 to 27, 2024.
The decision has been taken by the administration due to the rising temperatures and increasing reports of students suffering from heat-related illnesses
The decision was made following recommendations from the heads of various educational institutions reporting a surge in cases of ill-health and fainting among students due to excessive heat and dehydration.
“Based on the reports received from Head of the Institutions of different schools under Kamrup
Metro regarding various incidents of ill-health and fainting of students due to excessive heat and
dehydration and with due approval from District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, it has been decided that all Govt/ Provincialized/ Private schools functioning under Kamrup Metro district are to remain closed from 24 to 27 September 2024 due to excessive heat and rising temperature in the district,” read an order issued by District Mission coordinator SSA, Kamrup Metro district.
The district authorities deemed it necessary to prioritize the health and well-being of students by providing them with a temporary respite from the scorching temperatures.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) coordinator for Kamrup Metro district stressed the urgency of the school closure order, urging all schools in the district to comply with the closure directive.
This measure aims to protect students from the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
Earlier, in response to the increasing temperatures, some districts across Assam, including Kamrup Metro, had advanced school timings. In Kamrup Metro district, the District Elementary Education Officer on September 20 issued a circular, mandating all schools to implement measures to mitigate the impact of the heat wave. The schools were asked to adjust their daily schedules by beginning classes at 7:30 AM and concluding before or at 12:30 PM.
