Guwahati: SaveLIFE Foundation, in collaboration with Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, is strengthening trauma care resources at District Hospital, Sonapur, Assam, as part of its Zero Fatality Corridor program.
This program, supported by Škoda Auto Volkswagen India under its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, aims to transform high-risk highways into safer routes by leveraging advanced crash data analysis, community engagement, improved trauma care, and capacity-building efforts.
As part of this program, a special event was organized at the District Hospital, Sonapur, on March 27.
During the event, advanced trauma care equipment was handed over to the facility, with the goal of upgrading it into a trauma stabilization centre.
This upgrade will ensure that trauma patients arriving at the emergency department receive timely stabilisation and resuscitation before being referred to a higher center for definitive treatment.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr Uday Shankar Medhi, Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup Metropolitan District; Dr Rana Deka, Deputy Superintendent, District Hospital, Sonapur; and representatives from SaveLIFEF oundation.
Speaking at the event, Dr Uday Shankar Medhi said, “This enhancement will significantly improve the quality of emergency medical care and ensure that trauma patients receive timely stabilisation and treatment. We are grateful to SaveLIFE Foundation for their contribution to improving trauma care in our region. Together, we are working towards a future where road safety and timely medical care reduce preventable fatalities on our roads.”
Dr Rana Deka, Medical Superintendent from District Hospital, Sonapur, said, “The upgraded facility at District Hospital, Sonapur, sets a new benchmark for emergency care in Assam, reflecting our commitment to improving healthcare access, especially in rural areas. With upgraded response capabilities, we are not only boosting survival rates in critical situations but also enabling our healthcare professionals to deliver superior care to those in need. This collaboration reinforces our dedication to creating a more resilient and responsive health care system.”
The newly upgraded facility now offers vital trauma care, including essential resuscitation equipment, focusing mainly on airway management and breathing support; shock prevention, bleeding control, and orthopedic surgical instruments for fracture management.
These upgrades will help stabilise patients before they are transferred to advanced medical centers for further treatment, minimising preventable deaths caused by delayed emergency medical responses.
Emphasizing the importance of emergency care services in preventing road crash fatalities, Piyush Tewari, Founder and CEO of SaveLIFE Foundation, said, “This upgrade is a crucial step in strengthening trauma care in Assam. We extend our gratitude to Škoda Auto Volkswagen India for their invaluable support and partnership in this vital initiative. Together, we are ensuring faster, more efficient responses, ultimately saving lives and making our roads safer for everyone.”
