Dibrugarh: Union minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday unveiled the busts of the founding president of All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students Union (AASKSU), Gunaram Dhekial and the founding General Secretary of AASKSU, Shubha Baruah at

Kacharibari.

The event was organised in presence of the family members. Built with the funding from Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAU), the busts of these great leaders would always remind people about their contribution towards building a strong and proud society, said the senior leader, Sonowal.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarbananda Sonowal, said, “The immense contribution of the founding president of All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students Union, Gunaram Dhekial and its founding General Secretary, Shubha Baruah is immense in building a strong, holistic and proud society.”

Sonowal said both the leaders took active part in building a positive society. “It gives me immense happiness to have this opportunity to unveil the busts of these two great sons of Assam,” he said.

The union minister said the leaders gave birth to the Sonowal Kachari Students Union and made an all out effort to help build the Sonowal Kachari society. In the process, they also contributed in building a rich Asomiya society along with other communities of the state.

Working upon the strong foundation laid by them, the AASKSU and AASKWU have been working tirelessly for progress and development of the community in various aspects like education, sports and culture, he said.

“Their strong contribution led to the evolution of the Sonowal Kachari society in the socio-economic, cultural, spiritual aspects. Let me call upon both the organisations to build an Atma Nirbhar Bharat under the dynamic leadership of PM Narendra Modiji,” he said.
