Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its crackdown on narcotics smuggling across the region, apprehending 37 individuals in October and seizing contraband worth nearly Rs. 9.41 crore, officials said on Sunday.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said the force has maintained heightened vigilance to ensure the safety of passengers and railway property.
As part of the ongoing drive, RPF personnel at New Cooch Behar recovered 37.1 kg of unclaimed ganja valued at Rs. 3.71 lakh at the railway station on November 13.
The seized contraband was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for legal action.
On the same day, joint teams of the RPF and GRP at Agartala and Lumding detected 23.61 kg of ganja worth Rs. 2.36 lakh during checks at both stations.
In a separate operation on November 12, RPF teams at Dharmanagar, Agartala and Rangapara North recovered 50.51 kg of ganja worth Rs. 5.05 lakh. All seized items were transferred to the respective GRP units for further action.

Officials said coordinated efforts by the RPF, GRP and Customs continue to play a crucial role in curbing illegal activities within NFR’s jurisdiction.
Alongside its anti-narcotics operations, the RPF has also been actively involved in rescuing vulnerable passengers, including a significant number of minors, as part of its anti–human trafficking initiatives.
The Northeast Frontier Railway covers several Northeastern states, along with seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in northern Bihar.
